Resins for Miniature Success
Frequently asked questions
Why do swords and spears keep snapping off my minis?
Standard resins shatter from low elongation <5%. TGM-7 offers 61.6% elongation at break and 8.22 kJ/m² impact resistance. Minis flex on drops; perfect for thin swords/antennae in gaming.
How do I get sharper faces and armor detail?
Low detail from high layers. Use 50 μm for sharp faces/textures on 28-32mm minis. 25-35 μm for competition; doubles time. TGM-7 resolves fine features cleanly at 50 μm.
Why won't paint stick to my resin prints?
Residue or no primer causes peeling. Wash thoroughly, cure fully, dry 24 hours, then prime. TGM-7 78 Shore D surface holds well; light 400-600 grit scuff optional.
How do I remove supports without breaking delicate parts?
Post-cure removal snaps parts. Remove pre-cure while pliable for clean cuts. Use flush cutters; hobby knife for nubs. Reduces breakage on thin features.
How many miniatures can I print from one bottle?
A 1kg bottle yields ~100 28-32mm minis (5-8ml each). TGM-7 pricing gives €0.30-1.20 per mini.
What resin do I need for SiOCast mold masters?
SiOmaster withstands 180°C vulcanization with 44.3% elongation at break and 80 Shore D hardness. Ensures quality for repeated injections in production scaling.
What safety gear do I actually need for resin printing?
Always wear respirator with organic vapor cartridges, nitrile gloves, and safety glasses for uncured resin. Low odor does not eliminate vapors. Ventilate well. Cure waste fully before disposal.
